Internship Information for Students
Job Postings
Students view and submit their resume for internship job postings through MySpartanCareer. In MySpartanCareer you will not only see listings for employment opportunities where the employer will be visiting campus to conduct job interviews, but you will also see postings called “resume drops”. In these cases, the employer is merely collecting resumes at this point. After viewing the resumes, if the employer is interested in you, he/she will contact you directly to set up an interview. Interviews obtained through a resume drop are typically conducted at the employer’s place of business, although on occasion, the employer will arrange for an interview room in the Lear Center.
Important Dates
Although smaller employers post positions throughout the year, the larger public accounting firms typically only interview in the fall semester for both spring and summer semester internships. Key recruiting dates can be found here.
Internship Credit
Although not required, students may earn a credit for their accounting related work experience by signing up for ACC 493. Instructions for enrolling in ACC 493 are available here.
Other Resources
Although over 100 internship positions are listed each year, the process is competitive and students should explore other avenues for finding internships as well. Network with family and friends to obtain potential job leads. Use professional directories and the phone book to identify potential employers in the geographic region in which you want to work then call them to inquire about potential employment opportunities. Explore the resources available in the Lear Career Services Center and /or meet with a career advisor. Although the accounting job market is good, it is not always easy to find an internship and it may require some extra effort.
