Approximately 60 scholarships for undergraduate accounting majors will be available from the Department of Accounting and Information Systems for the 2008/2009 academic year. These scholarships range from $500 to $1,000. Scholarships will be awarded in the spring semester of 2008 and will generally be applied against the recipient's fall, 2008 tuition bill. Scholarship funds come from endowment earnings, designated gifts, and general contributions to the Department.
Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis, using academic achievement at MSU, leaadership roles and extracurricular activities at MSU, and written communication skills as criteria.
Application eligibility requirements:
- Full time enrollment as a BA candidate in accounting for at least one term of the next academic year.
- Accounting majors who have completed ACC 201 by the end of fall semester, 2007, are eligible for awards of up to $500. Accounting majors with at least three MSU accounting courses completed (201, 202, and either 300, 321, 331, or 341) are eligible for larger awards.
- Transfer student accounting majors who have earned a minimum of 15 credits (with at least 3 credits in accounting) at MSU by the end of fall semester, 2007, are also eligible. Those who have completed at least one accounting course at MSU are eligible for awards of up to $500, while those who have completed at least two 300 or 400 level MSU accounting courses are eligible for larger awards.
- A student may not receive more than one departmental scholarship during any academic year.
- Students who received a departmental scholarship in a prior year are eligible.
- Undergraduate student assistants are eligible.
Selection criteria in order of importance:
- Accounting GPA and overall GPA.
- Participation and leadership roles in Accounting Student Association, Beta Alpha Psi, NABA, VITA, and other University organizations or activities.
- Completed application form, including evidence of writing skills.
Scholarship award selections are made by the Department Chairperson and the Undergraduate Scholarships Committee of the Department of Accounting & Information Systems.
