THE SCHOOL OF HOSPITALITY BUSINESS

THE SCHOOL EVENTS HELP STUDENTS BRING
“CLASS” TO THE CLASSROOM

As the top-ranked hospitality school in the nation, The School offers an exceptionally well-crafted curriculum taught by innovative professors and drawn equally from two areas of study: general education and the hospitality industry. Particularly important to future employers is the wealth of hands-on experiences and group interactions available to students in the classroom and from a multitude of annual student-driven special events.

The premier annual event—anticipated throughout the mid-Michigan community as well as on campus—is Les Gourmets, an entirely studentrun, seven-course, black-tie reception and dinner. Les Gourmets is unique in that it combines all of the skills and practices taught by The School’s professors into one culminating, world-class event. More than 300 students participate, working in all areas, such as management, sales, marketing, purchasing, finance, cooking, bartending, serving and more.

The other three main events organized and run by hospitality business students include:

  • Vegas Night, which provides students with an opportunity to learn about the gaming industry as they manage more than 1,000 patrons playing blackjack, roulette, craps and other games;
  • Auction, a fundraising event to benefit The School alumni association and student Hospitality Association as well as two local charities;
  • CAREER EXPO, a career fair that attracts more than 200 recruiters from 75 different companies and provides opportunities for networking and one-on-one contacts between students and recruiters to discuss internships and permanent placements., a career fair that attracts more than 200 recruiters from 75 different companies and provides opportunities for networking and one-on-one contacts between students and recruiters to discuss internships and permanent placements.
