Just a few months after completing arrangements for a gift to endow a faculty excellence fund in the Broad School, George Nugent (BA Business Administration ’56) and Marilyn (Kelly) Nugent (BA Elementary Education ’57) celebrated another “golden” moment among the many memories this alumnus couple have shared at Michigan State University. In June of this year, the Nugents attended the 50-year reunion of the Class of 1956, held at the East Lansing campus.

“We have benefited greatly from our education at MSU. It provided the beginning of a lifelong learning experience as well as many fond memories and friends to this day,” says George, reminiscing about the cultural and sporting events the couple has attended, thanks to their proximity to campus.

Although they are patrons and supporters of the sporting and cultural aspects of campus life, the Nugents have, in addition, chosen to invest in the intellectual capital of the Broad School through their endowment to support “the best possible education experience for future students, by ensuring they have access to the best possible faculty.”

After graduation, Marilyn taught school and George began a career in the banking industry. He retired as executive vice president of First of America Bank Corporation. The Nugents have made their home in the East Lansing area and have been involved in a variety of community activities. Two of their three children also attended MSU.
