Broad School's undergraduate programs hold top positions in U.S. News & World Report rankings

The U.S. News & World Report ranking for undergraduate programs, released August 20, 2004, places the Eli Broad College of Business at 20th, compared to 21st last year. Rankings were even higher for several of the Broad School's specialized program areas, such as supply chain management/logistics and accounting. Read more.

Quality Awards program recognizes four top projects of 2003-2004

Fifteen Broad School alumni were named in projects selected for the 2004 Lewis Quality Award (LQA). Four projects were selected by the Eli Broad College of Business Alumni Association to receive awards in the annual quality competition: Broad China Supply Chain Forum, MBA Student Association, MGT 460/840 Course Development Team, and MBA Student Treks. The award announcement was made last month, after quality scores given by members of the Broad School's Alumni Association LQA Evaluation Committee were tabulated. Leadership Council plans for business-focused activities in Chicago Alumni Network

Dan Mathews (BA '66), senior vice president and chief operating officer, National Automated Merchandising Association, and chair of the Alumni Networking and Placement Committee of the Broad School Alumni Association Board of Directors, hosted a "leadership council meeting" of 16 business alumni leaders in the Metro Chicago area, on August 24. The group will continue to meet to discuss plans for a Broad Alumni Network and activities in 2005. Read more about the Chicago Alumni Network.

Broad All-MBA alumni meet in Detroit

"Alumni networking is person-to-person value creation," declares Gary Kapanowski (MBA '97), who was the organizer for the August Broad School all-MBA reception for Detroit area alumni of the Full-Time, Executive and Weekend MBA programs. Read more.

Class reps build Executive MBA (EMBA) alumni connections

With alumni representatives from 18 classes in the Executive MBA's 40-year history now identified, EMBA alumni leaders are looking ahead to events that will celebrate the program's 40th anniversary and other activities to strengthen connections with the more than 2,200 alumni of the EMBA program (formerly known as the Advanced Management Program - AMP). Matthew Angner (BA '95) recently accepted a position as senior product cost analyst with Alaska Communications Systems, Alaska's largest telecommunications provider.

The Bosch Advantage Group, headed by Chairman John Bosch (BA '50) ranked eighth in West Michigan's Business Direct Weekly's (BDW) July 2004 research of top real estate agencies.

Eli Broad (BA '54), naming donor of the Eli Broad College of Business and the Eli Broad Graduate School of Management, serves as co-chair of the Los Angeles Grand Avenue Project Committee. The $1.2 billion downtown revitalization effort is a public-private partnership to establish the Bunker Hill area of Los Angeles as an entertainment, cultural and shopping destination for residents and visitors to the city. Carl English (MBA '69) was named president of American Electric Power (AEP) Utilities based in Columbus, Ohio.

Ralph Jackson (MBA '65) was elected as a new director of Watts Water Technologies. He is a retired COO of Cooper Industries.

Michael Johnston (EMBA '87) was promoted to CEO of Visteon as a part of an agreed-upon succession plan. Johnston is a member of the Eli Broad College of Business Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Marc D. Mintz, CPA, (BA '80) has recently been elected president of the Passiac County Chapter of the New Jersey Society of CPA (NJCPA) for a one-year term beginning June 1, 2004. He serves on several NJCPA committees and is a member of the New Jersey CPA editorial advisory board.

Brad Moore (BA '95) was named sales manager of the Chicago Tribune's rental classified advertising category.

Frank Mossman, 89, professor emeritus of marketing and supply chain management, of Montclair, California, died July 1. Mossman joined the faculty of the business school in 1951 and retired in 1981.

Daniel J. Mount (MBA '91), CHA, was named to the UniFocus Research Advisory Board. He is an associate professor in the Penn State School of Hospitality Management.

Kyle Pettipher (BA '96) was appointed the director of revenue management for both the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel and the Loews Beverly Hills Hotel.

John Russell (BA '80) was recently named president of Electric and Gas at Consumers Energy. The company is headquartered in Jackson, Mich.

Allan Sherwin (BA '64) was recently named the Dr. Lewis J. & Mrs. Ruth E. Minor Chef de Cuisine for The School of Hospitality Business at MSU.

ADAC Plastics, Inc., of Grand Rapids, Mich., headed by James M. Teets (BA '80), company president, has been ranked 14th among the Top 50 Private Companies in a 12-county region of southwest Michigan. The company is an automotive supplier and has locations in Grand Rapids, Kentwood, and Muskegon. The ranking appeared in the July 15, 2004, issue of West Michigan's Business Direct Weekly (BDW). Rankings were based on the number of employees.

Aaron Zeigler (BA '95), president of the Harold Zeigler Auto Group, was listed in the July 15, 2004, issue of West Michigan's Business Direct Weekly (BDW). The automotive retailer was ranked 35th among the Top 50 Private Companies by BDW. Zeigler's company owns dealerships in Michigan and Indiana. Rankings were based on the number of employees.
