Jump to:Career Tools Two Broad undergrads named Truman nominees Two Eli Broad College of Business juniors, general business administration/pre-law major Kelly J. Averbeck of Dousman, Wis., and international relations and finance major Jared S. English of Jackson, Mich., are among the four MSU nominees for the prestigious Truman Scholarship for 2003. Approximately 80 students nationwide will be selected for the scholarships, which will be announced March 21, 2003. The Truman Scholarship, named in honor of former President Harry S. Truman, is a $30,000 merit-based grant awarded to undergraduate students in the upper quarter of their junior class who seek financial support to attend graduate or professional school in preparation for careers in public service. Alumni can offer career leads for new grads No job search tool is quite as valuable as a good network of business and personal contacts. Because that’s especially true in a tough job market, career services professionals at the Broad School are calling on the Broad alumni network to help this year’s class of BA and MBA students. Alums are encouraged to let family, friends, colleagues and other Spartans know that Broad School students have a well-deserved reputation for bringing immediate value to the companies they join. Professional networks start in the classroom Broad Alumnus Jonathan Adamsky, a ‘97 graduate in Finance, was the keynote speaker for the 2003 Spring Semester Welcome Night Orientation for Broad undergrads, Jan. 8. In his message to the undergrads, Adamsky stressed the importance forging networks as a student, student intern and business professional. Adamsky is a financial advisor with Morgan Stanley, the Greenspan Group, in New York City. Broad Alumni Association sponsors book scholarships Two $250 book scholarships, sponsored by The Eli Broad College of Business Alumni Association, were a welcome boost to the budgets of Broad College juniors Andrea Rutkowski and Aaron Sebastian. Their names were drawn for the valuable door prize at the Undergraduate Orientation event, Jan. 8. EMBA/WMBA welcomes new associate director Jeffery R. McNish, is the new associate director of the Broad School's Executive MBA and Weekend MBA Programs, which were consolidated under the leadership of Dr. Lucy Maillette last year. McNish, a graduate of the full-time MBA program, brings eight years of Detroit-area business experience to the Broad School. Most recently, he was a senior consultant for Cap Gemini Ernst & Young LLC's Manufacturing, Retail & Distribution consulting practice in Detroit, Mich. His primary location will be at the Troy Management Education Center. 2003 Broad Alumni Association officers inaugurated this month One-year officer’s terms for three members of the Broad Alumni Association Board of Directors became effective Jan. 1. Executive committee members are Bob Burgess, BA ‘66, of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., president; Andy Hopping, BA ‘81, of Okemos, Mich., vice president; and David Cosper, BA ’77, MBA ’78, of West Bloomfield, Mich., treasurer. Accounting team heads for finals in PwC's xTAX competition Wish them success! A team of five Broad School accounting majors will compete as national finalists in the PricewaterhouseCoopers xTAX competition later this month. The team includes sophomores Mary Makovic and Michael Scott, junior John Tondreau, and master's students Rick Robrahn and Nick Schunck. A total of six teams from around the U.S. will compete for the national PwC Alexander Hamilton Award in Washington, D.C. on January 30-31, 2003. |
