Krzyminski earns All-Big Ten student athlete honors and aims for Olympic achievement Broad School senior and finance major, Jamie Krzyminski, will participate in the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials July 16 at 9:20 p.m. (PDT) on the USA Network. She is one of 68 MSU undergraduates recently named to the Academic All-Big Ten Conference team - 17 of the Spartan athletes were Broad School students. Read more. Build local contacts with Broad Business Alumni Networks Broad School alumni in Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles and San Francisco are anxious to build local networks. These volunteer leaders and members of the Broad School Alumni Association's Alumni Networking and Placement Committee would like to hear from you. Get info on Business Alumni Networks in these cities or learn how you can help to establish a Broad Business Alumni Network in your metro area. Broad Coach program to expand in 2004-2005 Nearly 200 business alumni and friends will be matched with an estimated 250 Broad School students this fall as a part of this year's Broad Career Coach Program. With the success of the 2003-2004 pilot program, this year's goal more than doubles the coaches and students who will be matched. Coaches provide advice and referrals and are not expected to find employment for students within their organization. Alumni directories to be shipped soon Soon it will be press time for the Broad School Alumni Directory, a project in the works throughout the 2003-2004 academic year. Available to Broad School alumni only, the directory is offered as a soft cover book and/or CD-ROM. The compilation is in the final stages of pre-press formatting and distribution to purchasers is planned for late August. |

Executive MBA overseas study program featured in Detroit News article Nearly every university MBA program teaches global business courses, but MSU was among the first to design a specific European study program as part of its required curriculum. The program was featured in the July 2 issue of the Detroit News.
Broad study finds supply chain often
neglected in A study commissioned by AT&T, and conducted by the Broad School's Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management, has found that companies are courting disaster if their business continuity plans fail to ensure supply chain continuity. MSU shares in homeland security grant Researchers from areas such as food safety, packaging and supply chain management will use a federal homeland security grant to help develop ways to protect the nation's food supply. Key to the application of new technologies is the use of supply chain management principles developed by a group led by David Closs, professor of Marketing and Supply Chain Management at the Broad School. Read more. Trustees appoint Simon president designate On June 18, the Michigan State University Board of Trustees unanimously appointed Provost Lou Anna K. Simon as the university's 20th president. Simon will begin a three-year contract on Jan. 1, 2005. Read more. |

William Alsover (BA '71), chairman, Centennial Securities Company, has been reelected to a three-year term on the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) Board of Governors. He is a past recipient (2003) of the Distinguished Service Award, presented annually by the Securities Industry Association. Roberto Arocha (MBA '04) has been accepted into the MBA Enterprise Corps and will spend 15 months as a business advisor in Krygyzstan. Jim Bierlein (BA '90) was promoted to vice president of Lending at FinancialEdge Credit Union, formerly Bay Governmental Credit Union. Dave Cosper (BA '77 Finance Administration; MBA '78 Finance), chief financial officer, Ford Motor Credit Company, was named to the additional position of vice chairman, effective June 2004. In this new role, Cosper is responsible for finance, risk management, public affairs, and will oversee the coordination of internal Ford Credit audits. Cosper is vice president of the Eli Broad College of Business Alumni Association. Danielle Lenz (BA '97), an attorney in insurance finance with The Hartford, Connecticut, recently completed a master's of insurance law degree. Laura Mester (BA '87), director of the Financial Control Division of the Michigan Office of the State Budget, received the Association of Government Accountants Distinguished Leadership Award for 2004. The Technology Council of Maryland elected John R. Nyland (BA '75, MBA '77) chair of its board of directors. Nyland is vice president of Public Sector, Americas, IBM which provides systems integration, application development and professional services to public-sector customers. Nyland is a member of the Eli Broad College of Business Alumni Association. Rose Ryntz (MBA '02), director for Advanced Materials Engineering at Visteon Corporation, recently received the 2004 Women's Automotive Association International's Professional Achievement Award. Mitsuaki Shimaguchi (MBA '68, PhD '77), professor in the graduate school of management at Japan's Keio University, will be honored with the MSU Distinguished Alumni Award at ceremonies hosted by the MSU Alumni Association this October. Recipients are honored for attaining the highest level of professional accomplishment while demonstrating outstanding service and personal character. The MSU Alumni Association announced recently that Randall (BA '76, MBA '78) and Mary Pittman have been selected to receive the 2004 Philanthropist Award at ceremonies in October. The award is presented to selected candidates who have demonstrated philanthropic leadership for MSU. H. Michael Rice (BA '76), director of Auxiliary Services MSU Housing & Food Services, was honored recently by The School of Hospitality Business as Alumnus of the Year at a reception event in Chicago. Alumni Timothy J. Pugh (BA '91), director of Operations, Damon's Restaurants/DMA Food Group, and Michael Rice (BA '91), general manager of Lansing Quality Suites Hotel, were also honored as Emerging Alumni Leaders of the Year. Robert H. Nelson, the Lewis J and Ruth E. Minor, Chef de Cuisine at The School received the Honorary Alumnus of the Year award. The law firm of Thompson, O'Donnell, Markham, Norton & Hannon, of Washington and New York, announced that Sarah Elizabeth Roland (BA '98) has become an associate of the firm. Kevin Shaw (MBA '02) was promoted to vice president of Marketing and Business Development at Wieland-Davco, headquartered in Lansing, MI. The Midland (MI) Economic Development Council announced the appointment of Scott Walker (MBA '01) as its economic development manager.
