MSU enrollment increases

With an unprecedented increase in its number of freshman students, Michigan State University's official fall 2004 enrollment is 43,836, a slight increase of .7 percent, or 294 students more than last year. The Eli Broad College of Business remains one of the largest colleges at MSU with 6,134 students. Full Story

Cloudy skies and chilly breezes were no match for the attraction of Homecoming on Saturday, October 16. At business alumni pre-game tailgates, nearly 300 of our alumni took part in food and festivities sponsored by the Broad Alumni Association, The School of Hospitality Business and the MBA (student) Association. NYC alumni host MBA/Undergrad career trek

Broad alumni in NYC hosted 50 MBA and undergraduate students in an October career trek to 20 different companies. The trek was organized to introduce students to career opportunities, as well as to help them network with employers and alumni. Read more

Help Broad MBAs win "food fight" against hunger

For the sixth consecutive year, the Broad MBA program is partnering with other top business schools in a 10-day, national "MBA Food Fight," through November 8, to collect food and raise money to fight hunger. 2004 Broad Executive Forum to feature Ballmer

Find out how Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is providing excellent - some might even say extreme - customer service in the wake of IT security concerns at the 39th annual alumni-organized forum at the MSU Management Education Center in Troy, Mich. Alumni Notes

Robert G. David (BA '78),
has been appointed honorary consul for Grenada. David was appointed by the prime minister with approval of the U.S. State Department, effective August 2004.

Phil Hickey, Jr. (BA '77),
chairman and CEO for RARE Hospitality International, Inc., will be entered on the "Wall of Fame Class of Givers" by The School of Hospitality Business at MSU, at its 2004 Celebration of Leadership November 13 in New York City. RARE concept restaurants include Longhorn Steakhouse, Bugaboo Creek Steakhouse, The Capitol Grille, Hemenway's Seafood Grill and Oyster Bar and The Old Grist Mill Tavern.

Fred J. Kleisner (BA '66),
chairman and CEO, Wyndham International, Inc., has been named Industry Leader of 2004 by The School of Hospitality Business. Kleisner joined Wyndham in 1999 as president and chief operating officer. He was named CEO in April 2000 and chairman of the board of directors later that year.

John Krousouloudis (MBA '86),
has been named vice president of Marine Operations for Celebrity Cruises. Krousouloudis oversees all nautical and technical operations as well as safety and environmental issues for Celebrity's ten-ship fleet.

Carole McMenamy (BA '97),
featured in the October 20, 2004, edition of the Chicago Tribune, is the Broad School's newly famous "foodie" and founder of the Fun Young Foodie Club in Chicago.

George Meyer (BA '54),
reports that his firm, Commission Express, has bought over $2 million in real estate commissions since 1999 as part of his factoring business in Farmington Hills, Mich.

John H. Mueller (BA '50)
consultant, John Mueller & Associates, was named to The School of Hospitality Business "Wall of Fame Class of Givers."

John M O'Donnell (BA '69),
general manager, Maple Bluff Country Club, Madison, Wisc., has been selected for The School of Hospitality Business' "Wall of Fame Class of Givers."

Robert Olstein (MBA '66),
who runs the $1.9 billion Olstein Financial Alert Fund, was featured in Business Week's "Finance Q&A" on September 27, 2004, regarding SEC mutual-fund regulators.

Nancy Preston (BA '82)
has joined the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University as director of marketing. She has held positions with Union Chemicals, Michigan National Corporation, Aegon, Provident Life and Accident Company and Kimball Research.

Dan Roselli (BA '91)
reports with pride that his marketing firm Red F has been listed 21st in Inc. Magazine's annual ranking of the top 50 fastest growing private companies. Roselli will be on the MSU campus to speak to Broad students and members of the Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity, Nov. 4.

Ray Scott (MBA '02)
was named to the Detroit Crain's Business "40 under 40," a list of Detroit's rising stars. Scott is the president of Lear Corporation's European Customer Focus Division, in Southfield, Mich.
