Multicultural Business Students of Michigan State University
Multicultural Business Students (MBS) is a professional student organization housed under the Multicultural Business Programs (MBP) umbrella within the Eli Broad College of Business.
Founded in 1988 by Dr. Ernest Betts (Associate Dean), our purpose is to bring together undergraduate business students from different racial and cultural backgrounds, exposing them to the diversity they will encounter in the global workforce they are about to enter. MBS takes pride in being one of the largest and most diverse/inclusive student organizations on the campus of MSU with our membership representing Native American, Hispanic, Chicano, Latino, African American, Asian American, and international undergraduate business students.
MBS serves its membership by hosting a variety of activities such as corporate presentations, leadership retreats, community service events, and various social and team building activities throughout the academic year.
Corporate Presentations in particular allow members to not only develop networks with corporate recruiters but also to gain valuable exposure to the expectations of corporate America. Past presenters include Chrysler, General Electric, General Mills, Target, Kraft, Ernst & Young, Eli Lilly, Dow Chemical, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Shell Oil, BP America, and Kimberly Clark.
The MBS Leadership Retreat (in its 9 th year) is held during the fall semester of each year at the Kellogg Biological Station in southwest Michigan. Participants are given the opportunity to network with corporate professionals in a relaxed and casual environment while taking part in various team building workshops and activities that help develop them into future business leaders.
Community Service Events occur throughout the school year and allow for business students to give back to the community by dedicating their time and expertise to help others in need. Some past community service events have included Habitat for Humanity, Martin Luther King Community Service, and volunteering for the Lansing Jaycees Haunted House.
Social and Team Building Activities are also held throughout the academic year and include a Date Auction, 3on3 Basket Ball Tournament, Annual Holiday Reception for our corporate partners, bowling and movie nights, sporting events, and luncheons/dinners.
