If Excel is properly configured as a helper application in your browser, the sheets will open when you click on the file name of the one you want. Otherwise you will be prompted to save the spreadsheet to a directory you choose. If you have trouble downloading and starting automatically, check your helper applications and make sure these two MIME types are registered for Excel:
application/excel
application/x-excel
You can always download an Excel workbook by right clicking the file name, and saving the file. Then you can use an already open copy of Excel to open the file from your own hard drive.
If necessary, remember to use the Zoom option on the View menu to fit a spreadsheet to your monitor.
Finally, to make entering values easier, choose Tools|Options|Edit in Excel, and deselect the item "Move Selection after Return".
