Brian Van Elslander has been named to lead the combined financial sponsors groups of Wells Fargo and Wachovia Securities following the acquisition of Wachovia by Wells Fargo effective 12/31/08. Brian’s new organization also includes legacy Wells Fargo’s Media Finance and Mezzanine Finance businesses. He previously served as Head of Financial Sponsors for Wachovia Securities, joining the firm in 2006. He will remain a member of the Investment Banking and Capital Markets Operating Committee.
Previously, Brian was a Managing Director of Credit Suisse in the Financial Sponsors Group in New York. Brian was resident of the firm’s London office until 2005, where he held a similar role.
Brian joined Credit Suisse in 1999 from J.P. Morgan & Co., where he was a Vice President in the Leveraged Finance and High Yield Capital Markets groups in New York and London. Immediately after his undergraduate studies he joined PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Brian recently agreed to become the first chairperson of the Financial Markets Institute’s advisory board, having been a member since the FMI was founded in April 2006. As chair, Brian will work with the Institute’s directors and other board members to further advance the organization.
Brian graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from Michigan State University in 1987. He also holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
