Business Week recently ranked the Broad School’s MBA program 29th, among the “Best B-Schools of 2006.” The Broad School was ranked 21st on intellectual capital, and 2nd on time to pay back on attending a program. The BW article also reported that “Students praise outstanding career services center and faculty.”

Spartan Ventures

Spartan Ventures is an enterprise development firm owned and operated by the Michigan State University Foundation.  Spartan Ventures and the Center for Entrepreneurial Strategy operate in tandem to grow and launch enterprises from Michigan State University and the surrounding community. 

Spartan Ventures combines elements from traditional venture capital funds with elements from traditional business incubators.  Once an enterprise is selected as a Spartan Ventures client, it enters the Spartan Ventures enterprise development process.

Enterprises developed by Spartan Ventures also receive seed funding and assistance in developing their relationships with banks and lending institutions.  Spartan Ventures periodically evaluates the enterprises to ensure that they are ready to move forward in the development process.

In the final stage of enterprise development, Spartan Ventures facilitates the sale of the company, or an investment from a true venture capital firm.  At this point Spartan Ventures divests its stake in the company, with any profit returning to the MSU Foundation for later reinvestment.
