Outreach
Entrepreneurial startup activity is one of the most rapidly growing segments of the economy. Last year over 23,000 businesses were established in Michigan alone. Unfortunately over 21,000 businesses also closed in that same year. These numbers indicate net growth of approximately 2,000 employer firms (businesses employing others, as opposed to self-employment firms).* The Institute for Entrepreneurship hopes to promote successful startup activity in the Michigan business community.
The Institute for Entrepreneurship focuses its outreach resources on late stage two and stage three companies and high tech firms. These companies generally have the greatest potential for job creation and economic impact within the state. The Institute primarily works with businesses where an infusion of resources (both financial and knowledge-based) is required to move to the next growth stage. The Institute focuses on research and initiatives that will positively affect the Michigan economy by leveraging resources to help entrepreneurial businesses fill a specific market niche.
