Project
Supply Chain Initiative
Roger Calantone and David Closs will be working with local start-up companies to leverage Michigan’s supply chain infrastructure and resources. Calantone and Closs are leading a new initiative to develop Michigan as a supply chain services hub.
"Michigan has historically been a major player in preparing goods for shipment, receiving goods, and transporting goods throughout the Midwest and into Canada for a wide variety of manufacturing-based industries, but particularly for the automobile industry," says Closs.
The Broad School will provide access to leading-edge supply chain technology and consulting services in developing marketing plans. Full-time MBA students will be assisting in the development of a web-based data portal to provide participants and potential clients with a central source of information about Michigan’s supply chain services.
"Our role is to help all of the interested parties — local, state, and federal government, the public and businesses — to bring their plans into better alignment to foster economic growth by capitalizing on the area’s logistics infrastructure strengths," says Calantone.
Calantone and Closs are also working on an economic policy paper to explore the potential impact of developing Michigan’s supply chain capabilities and identifying barriers to the initiative’s success.
