Michigan State University seeks a strategic, entrepreneurial and collaborative leader to serve as the Eli and Edythe L. Broad Dean of the Broad College of Business and Graduate School of Management. The Dean will articulate a compelling vision for the School that is characterized by distinctiveness in its programs of research and teaching and a central role in the University’s global and interdisciplinary initiatives.
S/he will unite and energize the Broad School community to address the most important and complex challenges facing business and the broader society today. These include the globalization of talent, markets, and supply chains; the drive for sustainability; increasing pressure for accountability from governments, customers, and business partners; and, the opportunities that exist at the intersection of management, science, technology, social science and the humanities. The Broad School is well-equipped and well-positioned to capitalize on the tremendous opportunities these challenges create.
The Broad School has a strong reputation for academic excellence in its research and teaching programs. The School has a large and selective undergraduate business program with specialized academic and career advising. Students benefit from labs that support wide ranging experiential learning opportunities. The School offers full-time and weekend MBA programs, specialized masters programs, and PhD programs through each of its departments. Long a leader in international business, the Broad School is home to the Academy of International Business, hosts one of the nation’s leading CIBER centers, and provides its students with unmatched study abroad opportunities. The Broad School is also home to the independent School of Hospitality Business, which was the first school of its kind and currently is a leader in its field.
The new Dean will be a visionary leader who can build on the international reputation of Michigan State University and increase the Broad School’s visibility at home and abroad. It will be particularly important for the new Dean to foster strong partnerships and develop interdisciplinary programs with other colleges in the University and lead the entire institution’s initiatives on global sustainability. The Dean will unite the School around a vision of what it can become, develop a clear and compelling strategy that will position the School for future competitive success, and generate the financial resources to make that vision a reality. Substantial opportunities exist to strengthen the School’s teaching programs, broaden and deepen its intellectual capital base, develop untapped potential for fund raising from alumni and others, and leverage the resources of the University and the School’s expertise.
