Business professionals in southeast Michigan now have a new option for their MBA education. The Broad School is expanding its Weekend MBA program to a second location in Troy starting fall 2009.
Students can now elect to complete their program at either the Management Education Center in Troy or the Henry Center for Executive Development in East Lansing. Broad School faculty will teach at both locations, but all students will be together in East Lansing for orientation, residencies and other key experiences.
"Our Weekend MBA program is really a great option if you want a nationally recognized MBA that provides a solid return on your time and financial investment and fits your life," says Broad School Weekend MBA Director Cheri DeClercq "Our program will continue to focus on leadership development and strategic management within a comprehensive MBA curriculum, and we will continue to foster strong collaboration and networking within and across our cohorts and teams."
In order to remain a top choice in an increasingly competitive marketplace, the Broad School Weekend MBA program is also undergoing some minor modifications based on student and alumni feedback:
- Most classes will be offered every other Saturday with occasional Friday evenings;
- Most modules will consist of two courses rather than three, so students can focus more intently on each course and have fewer classes to simultaneously manage. Additional projects and/or papers will still be interspersed throughout the program;
- The program’s academic year will begin in mid-August 2009 and finish in March 2011. This will align the program with a more traditional academic year; and while extending into a third calendar year, maintain an intense, compressed 19-month format.
According to Cheri Speier, associate dean for MBA programs for the Broad School, a task force is continuing to look at curricular enhancements to the program. "We’re really trying to be responsive to the needs of our corporate partners and students to ensure that our graduates have the breadth and depth of skills to lead change within their organization," she says. "Also, our new structure reduces out-of-pocket costs for some students, since classes will only be held on Saturdays and many will no longer need to pay for over night lodging."
The Broad School Weekend MBA program is designed to meet the needs of high caliber, collaborative business professionals striving to balance the key challenges of work and home while getting ahead. Since 1995 its distinctive, team-based approach has successfully leveraged interactive learning and intellectual exchange. As a result, nearly 1,300 Spartan Alumni have been able to attain their goal of a nationally recognized, Big Ten MBA while continuing to move forward with their personal and professional lives.
Applications are currently being reviewed for the fall 2009 incoming class. For more information on the Broad School’s Weekend MBA program, please contact Cheri DeClercq at (800) 746-6781 or declercq@bus.msu.edu.
