In collaboration with the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University, The National Summit launched an ongoing survey of the American public to collect data and solicit opinions in the months prior to the June 15-17, 2009, gathering at the Marriott Renaissance Center in Detroit. More information about this event can be found at http://nationalsummit.org.
The purpose of the survey is was solicit public opinion on pressing economic issues, including the four key areas being addressed at The National Summit – Technology, Energy, Environment and Manufacturing. The results from this open polling were used as inputs to help shape the discussion at The National Summit.
"We absolutely believe these national issues are critical to the future of our country," says Cheri Speier, associate dean for MBA and MS Programs at the Broad School. "We’re excited to help develop this survey so that we can better understand the issues that shape national policy while also boosting our research and curriculum to meet the demands of our students – today and in the future."
The National Summit was convened by the Detroit Economic Club (DEC) to bring the country’s business leaders together with government officials and academic experts to discuss and advance a national economic agenda. William Clay Ford Jr., Executive Chairman, Ford Motor Company and Andrew Liveris, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Dow Chemical Company, will co-chair The National Summit.
Approximately 45 speakers – including leaders from energy, technology, communications, transportation and other sectors – agreed to address The National Summit. Noteable confirmed speakers were Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft Corporation and MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon.
"This survey will help us hold an inclusive and defining discussion on the American economy during this challenging time," said Beth Chappell (BA ’79), president and CEO of the DEC and a member of the Broad Alumni Association Board of Directors. "We are excited to be partnering with Michigan State University to find out what the American people are thinking."
