Stock market rewards firms of execs who buy early, punishes later buyers who yield to pressure - Associate Professor of Management Gerry McNamara recently examined why "early movers" in a merger wave typically do better financially than those who wait and jump on the "bandwagon" at the end of a merger wave.
McNamara says he is interested in how and why corporate leaders make decisions, especially under stress. "I study why smart people make dumb decisions," he says.
His research has been published in the Academy of Management Journal, the Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, and the Journal of International Business Studies. He presently serves on the editorial boards of Organization Science and the Strategic Management Journal and regularly reviews for several other leading journals. McNamara also participated on the Innovation and Organization Change grant review panel for the National Science Foundation, and he served as a member of the Research Committee of the Business Policy and Strategy Division of the Academy of Management. He received his PhD from the University of Minnesota.
