Human Resource Management
MBA Concentration
The HRM concentration is designed for MBA students who plan to
enter the managerial workforce as functional specialists in human resource management.
Graduates will possess the skills to identify and solve problems in the management
of human resources, and will have the competence to serve as managers of HRM
staffs.
Required Course
| MGT 810 Human Resource Management(3 credits) Overview of the design, administration, and evaluation of the human resource function. Needs assessment, program implementation and evaluation, information management and decision support, international human resource management. |
Other Requirements
| Nine additional credits of MBA-level MGT coursework not used to fulfill other degree requirements (with permission of MGT faculty advisor and the School of Labor and Industrial Relations, up to six credits of masters-level coursework in LIR may be substituted). It is strongly recommended that at least two of the following courses be selected as HRM concentration electives: | |
| MGT 811 Human Resource Staffing(3 credits) Scientific, legal, and administrative issues in the selection, placement, and promotion of individuals in organizations. Topics include job analysis, recruitment, testing, interviewing, performance appraisal, and affirmative action. | |
| MGT 812 Human Resource Compensation(3 credits) Application of compensation principles to organizational objectives. Strategic use of compensation systems for attracting, motivating, and retaining employees. Managerial aspects of paying employees at all organizational levels. | |
| MGT 813 Human Resource Training(3 credits) Planning, implementing and evaluating training programs. Career stages and career planning. Matching individual and organizational development needs. | |
| MGT 805 Special Topics in Management (variable credit) Advanced topics in management, taught on an occasional basis. Offerings relevant to the HRM concentration may cover such topics as Workforce Diversity, Collective Bargaining, or HRM Information Systems. (Note: MBA students may enroll multiple times for a maximum of nine credits, provided that each enrollment is for a different topic.) |
