Leadership and Change Management
MBA Subconcentration
Contemporary business conditions require students to develop expertise and abilities in general management during their educational experience. The subconcentration in Leadership and Change Management is designed in response to this requirement, focusing on refinement of the skills and self-awareness needed to succeed as leaders, managers, and visionaries in the functional areas addressed in other MBA concentrations and masters degree programs.
Required Course
MGT 830 Leadership: A Personal Challenge (3 credits) Review and evaluation of classic and popular theories of leadership. Guided self-assessment of current leadership style and strengths. Further development of leadership abilities through case analyses and class exercises. |
Other Requirements
| Six additional credits of MBA-level MGT coursework not used to fulfill other degree requirements. It is strongly recommended that two of the following courses be selected as LCM subconcentration electives: | |
MGT 831 Managing Power, Empowerment, and Involvement (3 credits) Assessment and evaluation of power in organizations. High involvement management and organizational effectiveness. Ethical issues in the use of power and empowerment as managerial tools. | |
MGT 832 Managing Conflict and Change (3 credits) Developmental processes, stages, and types of conflict. Approaches to conflict management and resolution. Analyses of relationships between conflict and change. Management of change in organizations. | |
MGT 833 Managing Organizational Structure and Culture (3 credits) Analyzing contingencies and factors that shape organizational structure and culture. Assessing strengths and weaknesses of alternative structures and cultures. Promoting effectiveness through structural and cultural modification. | |
MGT 805 Special Topics in Management (variable credit) Advanced topics in management, taught on an occasional basis. Offerings relevant to the LCM subconcentration may cover such topics as Teambuilding and Group Performance, Social Responsibility and Ethical Management, or Organization Development. (Note: MBA students may enroll multiple times for a maximum of nine credits, provided that each enrollment is for a different topic.) |
