New faces join the Department of Management
New faces
Since the last Newsletter, many new faculty have joined the Department. During the last year, two new assistant professors began their teaching and research careers with MSU. Jennifer Dunn (Ph.D., The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania) is currently teaching negotiation at the undergraduate and MBA levels. Her research investigates how trust, emotions, and reputations influence behavior in negotiation and decision making settings. Brent Scott (Ph.D., The University of Florida) is currently teaching the organizational behavior and human resource management course taken by all undergraduate students in the College of Business. His research focuses on mood and emotion, organizational justice, and personality.
Fall 2008 sees more new faculty joining the department. Margaret Hughes (Ph.D., University of Kentucky) begins her career with MSU. She will be teaching strategic management at the undergraduate level. Her research will also be in the area of strategy and the role of social networks in organizations. Jonelle Roth and Mike Williams both join the department as Professors of Practice (teaching specialists). Jonelle will be teaching courses in organizational behavior, human resource management, and ethics, while Mike will be teaching courses in strategy and entrepreneurship.
Finally, we are excited to report that our two year search for a new Hannah Professor of Psychology and Management has successfully concluded with the hiring of Professor John Schaubroeck. This is a joint professorship between the Management and Psychology departments, and John will work with faculty and students in both departments. John does research in a variety of areas, such as leadership, stress, and decision making.
In terms of Ph.D. students, since our last Newsletter, we have three doctoral students who have graduated and begun their academic careers. Scott DeRue joined the Ross School at the University of Michigan, Mike Mannor joined the faculty at the University of Notre Dame, and Mathias Arrfelt joined the faculty at Arizona State.
