Broad School joins Management Leadership for Tomorrow to help boost minority MBA applicants

Beginning this spring, the Broad School will partner with the internationally renowned Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT), a New York-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase minority representation in the business community. The Broad School joins a select group of 17 schools that work with MLT to enhance the preparation of underrepresented minorities in their application process to MBA programs.

As a partner, the Broad School will participate in MLT's MBA Preparation program, with the primary goal of assisting underrepresented minority young professionals to apply to prominent MBA Programs. Specifically, the Broad School will participate in and host seminars and workshops designed to mentor these professionals with key elements in the MBA application process. This initiative is one of three new programs offered through the 10-year-old Management Leadership for Tomorrow organization.

According to Broad School Full-Time MBA Admissions Director Esmeralda Cardenal, the MBA Preparation initiative is an opportunity to give highly motivated prospective students instruction in career assessment, essay writing, mock interview practice and financial aid counseling. "This is a very exciting program for the Broad School," she says. "It provides a structure to proactively solve the problem of minority under-representation in the MBA pool of applicants. This effort is part of Michigan State's mission of being a leader in promoting diversity in graduate management education."
