Finance Junior Chris Hill named
First Team Academic All-American

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) recently named Chris Hill, a Broad School junior finance major and varsity basketball team starting guard, as a First-Team Academic All-American. A Third-Team Academic All-American in 2003, Hill currently boasts a 3.84 GPA. He is only the fourth Spartan in MSU college basketball history to earn Academic All-America honors, joining Greg Kelser (1979) and fellow Broad School alumni Ralph Simpson (1970) and Matt Steigenga (1990, Third Team). He is the only Spartan to ever be honored twice.

"Becoming an Academic All-American was one of my goals for this season," said Hill. "It's nice to be recognized for the hard work and discipline it takes to have success on the court and in the classroom. There are a lot of people, however, who have helped me achieve this award, from my parents and the academic support people at Michigan State to my teammates and coaches."

"I think what is most impressive about Chris is that he gives 110% to everything he does," said Broad School Academic Specialist Elizabeth Booth, who had Hill in her finance honors class last semester. "He recognizes the wonderful opportunity he has been afforded and is determined to make the most of it - not just in basketball but also in terms of pursuing his degree in finance."

Being named an Academic All-American happens only one way - excellence on the playing field and in the classroom. Founded in 1952, CoSIDA is an association that represents over 2,000 professionals who serve as the sports public relations directors for universities and colleges in the United States and Canada. The association has been honoring student athletes since 1952.
