General Management Senior Liz Shimek named to Academic All-America First Team
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) recently named Liz Shimek, a Broad School senior general management major and women's varsity basketball team power forward, to the Academic All-America Women's Basketball University Division First Team. A Third-Team Academic All-American in 2005, Shimek currently boasts a 3.72 GPA. She is only the second Spartan in MSU women's basketball history to earn First Team Academic All-America honors. "Liz is the model student athlete," says her Broad School academic advisor Peggy Lux. "Not only has she achieved great success in meeting the challenges on the basketball court, she has also been remarkably successful in meeting the demands in the classroom. She has been an absolute delight to work with." Shimek was selected April 5 in the second round of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) draft, 18th overall, by the Phoenix Mercury but was later traded to the Houston Comets. She is the Spartans' all-time leading scorer and is graduating in May with honors. Click here for past home page stories |
