San Francisco Marketing Trek:
Broad Students & Alumni Connect

by Nathan Kruger

Early in November, fourteen first- and second-year MBAs took part in an education and information trek to San Francisco. Sponsored by the Broad MBA Marketing Association, the student organizers lined up corporate visits to six Bay Area companies, where the students learned about their marketing practices and operations. Students toured GAP, Deloitte & Touche, Intel, Applied Materials, Mervyn's, and Bio-Rad, with each visit emphasizing the marketing or supply chain strategies of the company.

Nathan Kruger, trip organizer and second-year student said that Broad Alumni at many of the companies were key to making the trek a success. MBA alum and GAP representative Tiffiny Furdak was instrumental in organizing a presentation by their Strategic Sourcing Group. "We're eager to enlighten students with our experiences here at GAP and excited to see the talent that continues to come out of the (Broad) MBA program" she said. Rich Fineberg, Broad alum and partner at Deloitte & Touche, was essential to securing a visit with Deloitte's Strategy and Marketing group.

SF Broad Alumni Reception Builds Unity About 40 people attended a Broad Alumni Reception at the Pan Pacific Hotel in downtown San Francisco, which was held in conjunction with the trek. Ken Sommer, CFO, Visa International and Broad alum, spoke about the need for alumni involvement, while MBA Director Jennifer Chizuk updated alumni about recent news in the program. MBA Alum Parth Gahndi commented, "This event established the first seed of unity for the Broad community in the Bay Area, which is essential to maintaining a rich long-term professional network here."
