Earlier this fall, the Broad School launched a unique new program to connect undergraduate and MBA students with alumni and friends of the college. The new Career Coach Program is designed to build alumni/student partnerships that, through networking and advice, lead to a specific outcome: a successful placement for the student.
Currently, with outstanding alumni support, 108 students have been matched with 70 coaches based on career interests. With large demand from the Broad students, the program will continue to recruit coaches for the fall of 2004, in order to provide a coach for all interested students.
Since the kick-off event during Homecoming weekend in October, several students and coaches have had the opportunity to meet face-to face. First year MBA student, Robert Fugate, described his first meeting with his coach, marketing executive Dan Roselli, as "one of the most enriching experiences in the MBA program."
In addition, first year MBA student, Jennifer Meder, met her coach, Bob Burgess, in October 2003. She said "The Career Coach program provided me the opportunity to gain career insight from a top corporate executive. Our first meeting was informal and relaxed, and I immediately received advice on my internship search." Alumni-student connections such as these have made the launch of the program successful.
