Broad MBA students collect 328,673 lbs. of food, win national food fight
In their eighth year in the MBA Food Fight - a national competition to benefit the hungry - students from the Eli Broad Graduate School of Management collected 218,493 pounds of actual food, once again taking first place among other MBA programs. The food drive's success was due in large part to a last-minute donation of several pallets of food from Meijer and $15,740 in cash. According to second-year student Justin Debord, Broad MBA Association vice president of community events, one dollar can buy seven pounds of food, which brought the school's total collected food equivalent to 328,673 pounds. All food and proceeds stay in the Lansing area at the American Red Cross Food Distribution Center. "This competition helps us develop leadership skills while raising food for the community," said Debord. "It's also a good way to develop core values, and we're really happy about our 2004 success." Associate Dean for MBA Programs John Delaney agreed. "It has become a tradition for us to win this event," he said. "Not just because we enjoy a triumph over other top business schools, but mostly because we feel like we're helping those in need who are right here in our backyard."
