Simonds, Talluri honored for scholarly activities; four college-wide projects win Lewis Quality Award

Richard Simonds

Srinivas Talluri

Richard Simonds, professor of Finance, was selected by the Broad School college advisory council to receive the 2004 John D. and Dortha J. Withrow Teacher-Scholar Award. The award is given annually to a faculty member in the Broad School who has rendered distinguished service through excellence in institutional and scholarly activities.

The award was presented during the annual faculty-staff picnic in early September. At the same event, Srinivas Talluri, associate professor of Marketing and Supply Chain Management, received the 2004 John D. and Dortha J. Withrow Emerging-Scholar Award. The award acknowledges outstanding contributions in institutional and scholarly activities by a faculty member early in his or her career.

Also honored at the event were Broad School alumni, students, faculty and staff members who led projects selected for the 2004 Lewis Quality Award (LQA). The projects included:

1. Broad China Supply Chain Forum, an undergraduate student project that brought 18 China experts together in panels and keynote presentations for a daylong conference on campus. A capacity crowd of nearly 400 people attended, representing 10 universities and 28 corporations.
2. MBA Student Association, the primary student organization for MBA students supporting student community service and charitable events, educational and social activities.
3. MGT 460/840 Course Development Team, a unique, experienced-based course involving both MBA students and undergraduate Management majors in a team-driven simulation.
4. MBA Student Treks to New York City, San Francisco and Chicago, designed to help students make valuable contacts for internships and job placements.

The Lewis Quality Award, established by the Broad Alumni Association Board of Directors in 1995, is an annual recognition of the best quality improvement projects or activities in the Broad School. Nominees are evaluated on the basis of seven characteristics: innovation, entrepreneurship, teamwork, demonstrated improvement, accomplishment of stated objectives, clarity of communication, and support of the mission and goals of the Broad School.
