As a pioneer land-grand university with global influence, Michigan State University has a special mission to embrace practical knowledge, as well as traditional scientific knowledge and research, thus enhancing the student experience.
The School recognizes the crucial link in the hospitality industry between academic learning and industry knowledge and is committed to strengthening the bond between academia and industry. We realize that our students are better prepared and graduate with a broader vision if they are exposed regularly to industry leaders. So while our professors and their research and teaching provide the backbone of a challenging curriculum, courses are supplemented with frequent visits by leaders from every segment of the industry. The Visiting Leaders Series was initiated in 1988 for this purpose, and to help ensure that an industry perspective is available to students from those "on the front lines."
The Visiting Leaders Series has been extremely popular among students, who very often stay in touch with the leaders through email. Advice given is taken to heart and is frequently instrumental in helping students set and reach goals, both personally and professionally.
