- Nick Little is Assistant Director of Executive Development Programs and The Global Procurement and Supply Chain Benchmarking Initiative of the Eli Broad Graduate School of Management at Michigan State University. Immediately prior to that time, he performed the role of Industry Executive on Loan to the Benchmarking Initiative from his previous employer The Post Office (United Kingdom). Nick was with them for almost 10 years. During that time, he worked at regional, business unit and national levels throughout their purchasing and supply organization. His last post was as Strategy and Projects Director for Post Office Purchasing+Logistics Services, a business unit incorporating nationwide corporate purchasing, warehousing and distribution to some 19,000 locations. Nick undertook a complete review of Post Office supply chains (internal and external) reducing annual operating costs by some 25% in two years and achieving a recurrent annual saving for the business exceeding £10 million (approx. $18million).
Prior to working with The Post Office, Nick spent 10 years with British Rail and its non-transport subsidiary companies following college business studies training with a purchasing and supply specialist option as part of the British Railways Board Supplies Management Training Scheme. Nick has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Studies from Ealing College of Higher Education in England and is a member, by examination, of the UK Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.
During his time with The Global Procurement and Supply Chain Benchmarking Initiative, Nick led work on a number of benchmarking projects, including Procurement Strategy Development/Implementation, Supply Chain Performance, Information Systems & Technology and Indirect Purchases. In addition Nick has compiled a Strategy Focus Report on Services Purchasing, taken part in field benchmarking exercises and made numerous GEBN and other presentations.
Nick is a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, the North American Institute for Supply Management and the International Purchasing & Supply Education & Research Association. He is also educational liaison officer for the Supply-Chain Council’s North America Leadership Team.
Nick has also recently undertaken supply chain integration research with a number of focus companies, their suppliers and customers. In addition, he has helped develop the concept of value attainment throughout integrated supply chains and determining comparative key performance indicators for procurement and supply chain management.
Throughout his career, Nick has designed, developed and delivered training at managerial and executive levels for purchasing and other operational and administrative staff groups. Nick brings that valuable industry-based expertise to complement the academic strengths of Michigan State University faculty as a key member of our Executive Development Programs group, specializing in customized programs and client relationships.
